"We ran Bournemouth Community Pride for the first time this year (2024), back in the gardens again, for free, as an open community event and bringing pride back to its grassroots protest origins. We plan to do the same thing next year (2025) as an alternative to Bourne Free's ticketed Saturday event for anyone who is not satisfied with what Bourne Free has to offer or for folks who can't afford it, and I can give more details closer to the time."
Watch this page for more info later this year!
Note:- They do have other events during the year. Contact them directly for info.

Update 01/03/2025 - from Facebook
Community Pride is what we make it as a community so please get involved to make something really special together. There's no organising committee, no money involved so no unethical sponsors, just great folks from the LGBTQIA+ community who want to share their skills and vision of what Pride can be with each other, as a protest and a celebration of our survival and resistance.
What would you like to see? Is there anything that you'd like to bring to Community Pride this year? It's happening on Saturday 12th July! We're lucky enough to have a few people signed up already to speak or perform, and will have an open platform on the day (but if you know you want to perform, let us know so we can get hyped about it and promote you if you want!) Excited to share some of the things we'll have going on at Community Pride this year, and for what y'all come up with.

Get in, queers, we’re boycotting BourneFree!
BourneFree have been called out for loads of problematic behaviour in the last couple of years, including having unethical sponsors like JP Morgan, funding fossil fuels and anti-trans legislation, LV=, an insurance company owned by Allianz that is supporting the genocide in Palestine, and BAE Systems, a literal weapons manufacturer. As well as cashing in on unethical sponsorships, BourneFree also charges an extortionate ticket price that prevents many folks from even attending Pride. They have also allowed organisations that harm marginalised folks to pinkwash at their events, like Dorset Police attending their ‘family fun’ day to propagandise and marching in their parade, and the prison HMP Guys Marsh also marching in their parade. |
BourneFree have thoroughly lost sight of what Pride is about with them going so far as to ban all ‘protest materials’ from their events, and not even supporting or amplifying local trans organising.
BourneFree has not listened to the calls of the queer community, and we have no reason to believe that this year will be any different. Pride is a protest and needs to be for the queer community, not corporations or organisations that harm LGBTQ+ and other marginalised folks. Because we do not believe BourneFree has any desire or motivation to change what they’re doing, Bournemouth Community Pride will be taking place on the same day as BourneFree, as a free protest and celebration that all LGBTQ+ folks and allies are welcome to. It is an encouragement to engage in boycotting corporate Pride and to take part in grassroots community events and really build community. With everything going on in the world, we need strong communities more than ever, not to be throwing a vacuous party as though fascism isn’t on the rise. |
Things you can do:
- Don’t buy tickets to BourneFree. - Share information with your friends about why to boycott BourneFree. - Share that there will be a free alternative to BourneFree on the same day, so everyone boycotting BourneFree will still have a Pride event to go to. - March in BourneFree’s parade with ‘protest materials’ – make your voice heard that Pride is a protest. This can be as part of a bloc with friends or other folks doing this, or individually. You do not need to have permission to march in the parade, you just need to show up and march. - Participate in Bournemouth Community Pride, which will be on at the same time as BourneFree. Community Pride is non-hierarchical and has a bring-what-you-want-to-see ethos where everyone can take part, whether that’s by sharing a speech, performance, music, poetry, art, activities, helping with accessibility (e.g. interpreting, bringing sensory items for others to use, bringing masks, etc.) or anything that you feel would make Pride better for you. If we all bring what’s important to us, it reflects who we are as a community and is something that we could never create if it was left to just a few people to decide what Pride should be. |
If you want to facilitate something for Bournemouth Community Pride that requires support, assistance or other kinds of planning, reach out and let’s all try to make it happen.
We will be posting more in the run-up to the Pride season, but for now, save the date for Saturday 12th July to take part in a free, liberatory and ethical Pride if you want somewhere to go instead of BourneFree.
