Pub Pride in Dorset 2025  (posted here 09/06/2025)

Sadly again Pub Pride in Dorset in 2025 was a flat event! Despite one Weymouth Pub venue being listed on the national Pub Pride map, nothing happened (as far as we know). Weymouth Gay Group contacted The Wyke Smugglers, but did not get a reply to our email. This is a great shame, as Pub Pride is such a brilliant way to welcome in Pride month, and embrace diversity and inclusion at YOUR local. With Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester and Bridport having many suitable supportive venues, surprisingly none took part in Pub Pride 2025.

Note:- We have even suggested this to Weymouth's Dry Dock (non alcohol pub), but while they are very LGBT+ friendly, they have not come back to us about doing their own Pub Pride.

According to the national Pub Pride map (left, click on it to enlarge) the only Dorset pub taking part is:-

The Wyke Smugglers, 76 Portland Road Weymouth DT4 9AB

Pub Pride is 5! #AskForClive's largest annual fundraiser and event Pub Pride 2025 takes place on Friday May 30th and throughout the weekend. Sign up to join hundreds of pubs and venues across the UK to welcome the arrival of Pride month both in and for your local community. We’re celebrating FIVE YEARS, and our theme colour for 2025 is Hot Pink!

About #AskForClive's Pub Pride
Pub Pride started in 2021 in response to a number of cancelled local Prides, and an awareness that many young people had not been afforded the opportunity to get out and be themselves during the pandemic. It’s an opportunity for venues to showcase their commitment to inclusivity and to celebrate Pride in their local community, where people hang out and socialise in their day to day lives.

Sign up for a Pub Pride pack and get planning your night. Over the past four years we’ve had club nights, karaoke, drag shows, film screenings, dog walks and meets, camping, you name it. Get creative on your event, and most importantly, make it authentic and collaborate with local community organisations.

Join, Celebrate, Shine! Venue packs are available for as little as £50, this will get you a Pub Pride flag and bunting, listing on our venues page, and access to partner products exclusive for Pub Pride. A £100 pack also includes six Pub Pride tees.
5 Reasons Why Your Venue Should Sign Up To #AskForClive's Pub Pride 2025

1 Celebrate Community
Embrace the spirit of your local community with Pub Pride 2025 by joining one (or more) of the vibrant venues scattered across the nation on the 30th of May, 2025.

2 Showcase Support & Inclusivity Locally
Pub Pride 2025 creates welcoming spaces to support the LGBTQ+ community, promoting inclusivity and raising awareness, fostering understanding and acceptance across towns and communities.

3 Promotion Of Your Venue Through #AskForClive
Registered venues get access to authentic partner products and #AskForClive and Pub Pride 2025 promotion, helping elevate their events.

4 Now A Famous Annual Event
Celebrating Pub Pride 2025 also helps to promote and support local businesses.

5 Welcome Pride Month 2025 Locally
Transform your venue with Pub Pride 2025 stickers, T-shirts, bunting and a Flag to show your commitment to inclusivity and celebration.

Pub Pride 2024 - HUGE let down for Dorset (posted first on our news page 27/05/2024)

It's been a HUGE let down for LGBT+ people wishing to enjoy Pub Pride 2024 in Dorset.

None of the three Dorset venues advertised on their website are taking part.

We phoned the two Weymouth Pubs
(on 27/05/2024), Wyke Smugglers and The Old Ship Inn who both said nothing was happening. So why are they listed?  The Globe Inn Swanage - sadly their phone number is not connecting, and further research suggests that the pub is closed for a refit having been taken over by a community group.

We, Weymouth Gay Group had contacted all three by post weeks ago, with details about our group and an invitation to help support their Pub Pride. With no response.

Someone said: - Don't ask for Clive, he won't be here!

On a slightly brighter note, Dorchesters Transgender group have said they will run a "Pub Pride" type of event later this year.

But dont worry - Weymouth Gay Group embraces Pub Pride twice a week in Weymouth!  Swan Thursdays, other venues Mondays . See - https://weymouthgaygroup.weebly.com/

Pub Pride info 2024 (posted first on WGG news page 16/03/2024)

Although not until 31st May, excitement has been brewing for this year's Pub Pride!

Pub Pride, which has been taking place nationally (300+ venues!) and in Dorset during the last few years, is basically a Pride celebration at your local pub to welcome in Pride month (June).

Dorset Pubs in Weymouth, Dorchester and Swanage have all hosted their own Pub Prides in the past.

Perhaps the most successful Dorset Pub Pride was in 2022 at Weymouth's Waterloo Pub. You can see pics & reports here on our WGG Pub Pride page below.

Photo right - our Jonai on our stall Pub Pride 2022 Waterloo Pub

You can encourage your local Pub to sign up (before April 21st) and as well as receiving a Pride pack of flags, stickers & t-shirts (some say a bit expensive, but not when you share with friends) they can receive training packs for pub staff, upskilling them to support LGBT+ people at the venue (some say priceless!).

We have heard that a Dorchester Pub may host a Pub Pride, if so we hope to bring you more details here later.

If you are a Dorset Pub wishing to run an event for Pub Pride, please do let us know so that we can help you promote it!  email [email protected]

What is "Ask For Clive" ?

Everyone is welcome here

Ask for Clive is a charity that partners with venues to promote inclusion and to create welcoming environments for the LGBTQ+ community.

They work directly with local communities and venues, and collaborate with law enforcement on training and reporting initiatives
.

How does it work? Ask For Clive said ....

  • Venues register
  • We send out stickers and a briefing pack for venues to train staff in the event of any form of discrimination or hate crime is observed or reported at the venue
  • Venues put the Ask for Clive sticker on their door to let people know that ‘Everyone is Welcome Here’ and that discrimination will not be tolerated
  • We ask venues to provide a charitable donation to cover our costs – we suggest £25 per venue (but more is always welcome!)
  • Venues follow us on socials (using the buttons below) and are kept updated on Ask for Clive news and events including the annual Pub Pride celebration

More info see - https://askforclive.com/

Pub Pride info -

Ask For Clive held the first Pub Pride nationally in July 2021.

We have worked with Pride Organisations, Pub Companies, BID teams and local councils to bring the event to life. Returning for our fourth year, Pub Pride 2024 will take place in venues across the UK on Friday May 31st to Sunday June 2nd.

It’s a night for venues to celebrate their local LGBTQ+ community, and welcome Pride month in their home town. What you do over the weekend is up to you - live music, cabaret, karaoke, drag brunch, film screening, or just dressing up your Pub or Venue to show your support.

Each year will now see a theme colour, coming from the progress Pride flag. For 2024 this will be Yellow, which on the original Pride Flag symbolises sunshine and new ideas, we hoping for lots of each!

Venues are encouraged to hold their own fund raising events, one of our key policies being that funds should only come from people having a great time or experience, or from enjoying some of our partner products. We’ll also have our annual cocktail competition! Venues have sold special beers, cocktails, pizzas and cakes to raise funds for Ask For Clive. We can’t wait to see what you do!

We’d love to have you on board, please reach out to us at [email protected] if you want to discuss further.

Photos & reports
(posted here 28/05/2022 updated 1102/2023 updated 09/03/2023)

Glorious sunshine welcomed everyone to The Waterloo Pub and its fabulously decorated garden with rainbow flags,

Below are photos and reports from Weymouth's first Pub Pride in 2022 which was fantastic!

Weymouth’s first Pub Pride

Glorious sunshine welcomed everyone to The Waterloo Pub and its fabulously decorated garden with rainbow flags.

Nationally Pub Pride is run by "Ask for Clive" an inclusive project promoting acceptance and safety for LGBT+ people in UK pubs, and is a way of welcoming in Pride month – June. This was the first time it had taken place in Weymouth.

A variety of stalls were present including some wonderful craft stalls. One of which, run by The Bridport LGBT Group girls, had a great display of Pyrography (the art of decorating wood with burn marks). They also had a range of rainbow & LGBT goodies including mugs for sale.

Weymouth Gay Group had an information stall with lots of leaflets, and photos showing our pub meet ups, and it was great to network with everyone attending.

The BBQ proved to be very popular, with the local Gulls looking on!

Meanwhile inside the karaoke entertained many, while the drinks were flowing late into the night!
Let’s raise a glass and say …

A huge thank you to Dawn & Joe, Managers plus staff at The Waterloo Pub for hosting Pub Pride, Steve aka Sequined Sherrill (pub regular) for all his/her enthusiasm and organisation.

Also to all the LGBT people and Allies who attended, and special thanks to all the pub regulars who joined in all the fun having their faces painted in rainbows!

Mike from WGG said :- I thought it was a bloody great evening!!  Next time I'll book the day off!

Picture
The only negative aspect to the day was the report (not connected to Pub Pride) in The Dorset Echo (see our news page here -https://weymouthgaygroup.weebly.com/lgbt-news-weymouth-dorset-2022.html ) of a hate crime incident on Weymouth's esplanade. This just served to remind everyone why PRIDE is still so important in all its formats.

More pics to follow soon! If you went along, and have pics to share, please do send them in to us at [email protected] Thanks!
