For many years Dorchester enjoyed The Dorchester Love Parade which took place at an amazing venue - Maumbury Rings. It was at the end of August and organised by Chris and his team from Cafe Jagoes. It ran for several successful years.

"Love is Love" Dorset Youth Pride 2023    (posted on our news page 10/06/2023)

Dorchester recently welcomed this now annual (in it's second year) LGBT+ Youth Pride event. in the unique surroundings of Dorchesters old court house - Shire Hall - with all its history is a very interesting venue at any time of year. This wonderful event offered lots of interesting activies for young people and their famies, and was very well attended.
Lovely as always to see, and network with all our friends from the Dorset LGBT community (loads of stalls!), - our family!
We were there with our info stall (pic below) but as we were on our own maining our stall, we could not get away to enjoy all of the other events going on. Transport up to, and return from the event also caused us a few last minute problems especially carrying everything.

Weymouth Gay Group would like to thank everyone at Shire Hall for hosting and organising this Pride event.

It would be nice if in 2024 if the Chesil Youth Pride (on at Weymouth College 17th June 2023) could connect with Dorset Youth Pride.

One idea if our local towns where a bit closer - is a passing of the Rainbow Pride flag from one Youth Pride to another! That would be an Olympic occasion. Especially if we could ask Tom Daley to do it!

Dorset Youth Pride 2023
DORSET YOUTH PRIDE  Saturday 10th June 2023 10am - 4pm

This will be at Shire Hall Dorchester and ran in June 2022 for the first time. Organisers are keen to repeat it!  It is a really beautiful event, and you dont need to be "lgbt youth" to attend and enjoy it. You can see pics from last year, and read about the day below.

Weymouth Gay Group will be one of several groups with a stall there.

Dorset Youth Pride 2022

Shire Hall embraces all at Youth Pride (posted here and on our LGBT news page 27/06/2022)
The Dorset Youth Pride at Dorchester's Shire Hall was a beautiful event embracing not only the LGBT community, but many young people, families and allies as well.

The slogan "Love is Love" with a rainbow of balloons greeted all, and a range of actives offered plenty to do. Several local LGBT groups had stalls, including Space Youth Project (SYP), Dorset NHS (Jonai!), Pop'n'Olly, as well as ourselves - Weymouth Gay Group.
Set in the amazing old court house building, the event was very well attended, and it was nice being next to the cafe and inside (after our stall at Chesil Rocks with wind problems!). It was very helpful having our website on laptop available, as this helped to answer several inquiries during the afternoon.

It is always so nice to meet and catch up with other people from our community at these events. Special Hello to Mel SYP & Pop'n'Olly, Charity SYP, the forever bubbly Jonai (NHS), Annabelle & Debbs Bridport LGBT Group, and Steve "This is Me" Trans & cross dressing social group Weymouth.

Many thanks to all the staff at Shire Hall, especially Tamsin for organising the event and inviting us to have a stall there.

Shire Hall Museum will be open for FREE* on Sunday 26th June, 12pm – 5pm. Visitors to Dorset Youth Pride will have the opportunity to take part in a range of inclusive activities whilst exploring one of Dorchester’s most historic buildings.

Shire Hall Museum in Dorchester is hosting a free family friendly Pride event this weekend.

On Sunday June 26, the venue hosts Dorset Youth Pride - a free, family-friendly Pride event from 12pm-5pm.
Dorset Youth Pride seeks to be an inclusive event welcoming all members of the LGBT+ community and allies, especially families and young people. People will have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities, from slime making, cake decorating and jewellery making to a talk on LGBT+ history and Drag Queen Story Hour UK.

Visitors can talk with representatives from Space Youth Project, Pop 'n' Olly, Dorset Youth Voice, Weymouth Gay Group and NHS Dorset HealthCare Trust.

Abbie King, Director at Shire Hall Museum, said: "Everyone at Shire Hall Museum is incredibly excited for our first Pride event. We wanted to create an inclusive and family friendly event because we believe that Pride should be for people of all ages.

"Pride is an incredible celebration but it's also a call to action. It's an opportunity to promote and support the LGBT+ community; reflecting on the history but also highlighting the work that still needs to be done.
"Dorset Youth Pride will be a celebration but we also hope that it will be an opportunity for people of all ages to learn and engage."
